    In Celebration of Being Busy

    I know I have spoken of how busy I am and I know I am not alone, each one of us is busy.  I don’t consider being busy a bad thing.  There are days when I might stop and wish for a quieter moment, but I wouldn’t wish to be not busy.  I love the things I am involved in!  Being busy makes life interesting and fun and fulfilling.  Yesterday, I met with members of the Pastoral Care Committee and will share with everyone here, what I didn’t share with them then.  Wow.  I am so touched and impressed by the work these women, and their committee members, do.  In a busy life, they find time to visit or call, deliver food or send a note.  Theirs is one of the quiet Moments of Grace each week.  We are all busy, busy building a beautiful church community that will have an impact beyond our walls.  We are making great things happen.  In celebration of being busy, a poem by Mary Oliver.

    Song of the Builders by Mary Oliver

    On a summer morning
    I sat down
    on a hillside
    to think about God -

    a worthy pastime.
    Near me, I saw
    a single cricket;
    it was moving the grains of the hillside

    this way and that way.
    How great was its energy,
    how humble its effort.
    Let us hope

    it will always be like this,
    each of us going on
    in our inexplicable ways
    building the universe.

    from Why I Wake Early (2004)
