We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Robert Radtke, President of Episcopal Relief & Development, back to Grace Church on January 13th . Rob will address the Grace Discussion Group at 9:30 AM and will preach at the 10:30 AM Service. Those of us who remember his visit to Grace five years ago will remember how engaging and informative his presentation was, and how inspiring was his sermon. We can expect an uplifting and challenging message again this year.
Episcopal Relief & Development is a compassionate response to human suffering on behalf of the Episcopal Church. Their international work is to heal a hurting world; it is guided by the principles of compassion, dignity and generosity, using Matthew 25:37-40 – to feed the hungry, care for the sick and welcome the stranger – as its touchstone. Formerly the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief, ERD presently works in 40 countries and touches 3 million people through its care programs. Here at Grace, our Social Action Committee and our children and youth have participated in ERD's malaria eradication program by raising funds, which will be presented to Rob on January 13th, for mosquito nets – one of the many initiatives that ERD spearheads.
Rob has a history at Grace, having attended frequently when his father was an interim here in the 1980s. He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his doctorate from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He also, this past spring, received an honorary doctorate from The Episcopal Divinity School. Rob has been at ERD for eight years, and has shepherded the organization through remarkable growth with his vision, enthusiasm and hard work in making the work of the agency known throughout the Church and the world.
Please join us on January 13th to be with Rob Radtke and to hear his message.
