As part of the GDG seriesSharing Our Gifts, Passions and Ministries with Others, please plan to join us at the Grace Discussion Group on Sunday, May 17 for : “Retirement to Research: the Shetland projects.

If you’ve been watching the detective series “Shetland” on WGBH on Mondays, you have seen sights very familiar to two Grace Church parishioners, Mary and Ken Carpenter. It all began for them in 2011, when Mary decided to go to Shetland in order to continue her work on an unpublished manuscript by a Shetland woman, “A Sketch of Eight Months a Patient in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, A.D. 1877.”  Ken, who accompanied Mary, found that Margaret and her family had exchanged many hundreds of letters between 1850 and 1880. Mary and Ken will tell you about the Mathewsons, Shetland, and their ongoing work and involvement in that most northerly part of Scotland.
