Hymns & Kids

Learning hymns Formation Station Grace Newton
During Formation Station this past Sunday the children learned a verse of What Wondrous Love, which we sang in 10:30 worship. By slowly introducing aspects of our communal worship, children will have a greater connection to the service and what we do together. I look forward to continuing this Sunday by teaching them some of a hymn we will sing this Sunday, Earth and All Stars

If you have ideas or comments on what you feel will help your children's worship participation, please see Heather so she can incorporate these aspects into her teaching. Be on the lookout also for Hymnal Scavenger Hunt Number #2, and a big congratulations to all the kids who have completed the first one! Great job!

Reminder: Junior Choir meets this Sunday after 10:30 worship.  We are learning Hymn of Promise, by Natalie Sleeth. Check it out here!

Huge Thank You to Our Choirs

The members of the Junior and Senior Choirs have been preparing for Easter and Holy Week for many weeks now. Thank you all for your hard work and tireless dedication. You truly made a joyful noise to the Lord!  I am so blessed to be able to work with you all.

The Easter edition of the Junior Choir consisted of: Zoe Kling, Laney Riedman, Zoe Isabel, Gregory Walton, and Mariana Chango Gasset. For the last two months, the Junior Choir met every week after the 10:30 worship service to learn about Lenten music, our Easter celebration, and learn their anthem. Many thanks to the older helpers, Elena Loomis and Jane Yannis. Many thanks also to Lila Glanville, Mary Randolph and Caroline Crook for helping the Junior choir in rehearsals. We learned a bit about how to follow music, where to find sections in a piece, and so much more.

Anyone in first through fifth grade is invited to join the Junior Choir.  Rehearsals begin again in a few weeks!

Easter Is Coming!

Tomas Luis de Victoria
The choirs at Grace have been busy preparing special musical offerings for Holy Week and Easter. The Senior Choir will be presenting a special Palm Sunday anthem by the early Baroque composer Tomas Luis de Victoria. Victoria was an organist, cantor and Catholic priest active in Spain and Italy during the time of the Counter-Reformation. His music paints a beautiful and haunting picture on Palm Sunday of the Passion story unfolding.

On Good Friday, the Choir will sing his setting of Popule meus, a text weaving together the relationship of God and his people in the Old Testament and the words of Christ on the Cross.  O Easter Sunday, the choir will present a work by a contemporary of Victoria who joyfully expresses the resurrection by employing many similar compositional techniques.

Adding to our celebration, the Junior Choir will present the Easter Offertory Anthem, Celebrate this Glorious Day, by Cristi Cary Miller and Kathlyn Reynolds.

Additionally, there will be an extended prelude on Easter Sunday, beginning at 10:15 a.m. for the 10:30 worship. Come early for special music and a time for individual celebration.
