Church School had at least 23 children on Sunday! After processing around the park, the children went to their classrooms. The Godly Play class dyed Easter eggs! There were many helpers and plenty of eggs for all. Thanks to those who pitched in! The Elementary Class completed the filming of their movie about the story of Jesus healing the blind man. They were costumed and rambunctious!
The Middle School Class started by sharing stories of where we've seen or felt God in our lives. We then shared stories of when it seemed like God was absent or not a part of an experience. After this, we continued our discussion on race, privilege, and Christianity. We discussed the ways our faith tradition and scriptures speak against prejudice and racism, while still being aware that the Christian faith can and has been used to support oppressive behaviors. We looked at different Bible verses that we think represent the spirit of Jesus' life and teachings, and we imagined Jesus' reaction to racism today.
Don't forget, the Church School needs LEGOs! Please let me know if you have any to donate to our program. :)
