So many people make an Annual Meeting happen, but I just want to say how grateful I am personally for the Kitchen Team last Sunday.
Thanking people is a dangerous business because so many hands contributed and I don't want to leave anyone out. Luckily, this is a church so I can begin by asking you all to forgive...
Thank you, Jenny and Connie, Jeff and Barbara for working so hard to set up. Thank you Windley and Carrie for serving food. Thank you JoEllen and your youthful band for work in the kitchen and at the table. Thank you, Ellie and James for staying with our kids and giving Justin a very important hand with our young people. Thank you, Paulette, Bill, Chris, and so many people who helped with clean up... in fact, more folks helped out this year than in many other years.
If you brought a quiche, part of the salad, or dessert, let me personally say thank you! I do not admit to having had four slices of quiche...
To everyone who folded chairs or set tables or cleared plates or brought something - thank you.
And I just want to thank Mary Swezy for managing a complicated machine with grace and humor.
Producing a meal like we had Sunday is strangely both very public and an act of service in secret. With so much hustle and bustle, it's actually hard to notice individuals who are working quite hard. In this way, many of you performed acts of kindness almost anonymously, yet doing so in the midst of a crowd. Works done in secret hold a special place in living the Gospel, and for this, thank you.
